Born and raised in Bulawayo, capital of the former Rhodesian Jazz (Dorothy Masuka to Cool Crooners) Chengetai is one of the only non-South African representatives of the "Rainbow Music", this merger post-apartheid post-independence music Southern Africa. Bantu mixes traditional melodies of Afro-Cuban rhythms, and references to black American music, from jazz to soul, her original songs written in Shona and English renew such invented at the time by Miriam Makeba, since renewed by Mango Groove and Johnny Clegg, whose claim to present artists like Simphiwe Dana and the band Freshlyground. Chengetai lives and works in Paris. His first album "Zimblue", was released in France on May 14 (Handmade Productions).
